The stick: an old favourite becomes a new star
Along with the baby doll and the skateboard, 2008 saw the induction of the humble stick into the Toy Hall of Fame. On the heels of 2005's addition of the cardboard box, the stick has now taken its place in the hall as one of the greatest toys ever.

19-year-old Russian hockey star and New York Rangers draft pick Aleksey Cherepanov collapsed and died on the bench after scoring the first goal of the game.
